My Night Life

Jonas Mekas is a founder of avant-garde cinema, an independent artist, who lives and works in New York. He gained fame by his cinema diaries, narrative and documentary films and is a well-known poet and prose writer. This time the artist surprises readers by an original work, experimental in its content and form. "Mano naktys" (My Night Life) is compiled of the author's dreams that he dreamt and wrote down in the period between 1978-1979.
The book has original illustrations by Eugenijus Varkulevičius (August Varkalis). These transcribed dreams reflect the author’s personal experience, which emerges in grotesque, heavy and dream-alike forms, which transcend reality. But this grotesque and chaos cover an entire life story, which unfolds through the daily experience, complicated fate of an emigrant and leitmotivs of homeland recollections. Jonas Mekas continues his tradition of writing cinema diaries, which focus on delicate and extremely subjective daily and personal moments, recorded moments of his own and his friends’ life, an uncontrollable flow of dreams and the subconscious, which takes unpredictable forms. The book is published in Lithuanian and English.
